…….. I made a few changes and I had a serious talk with myself about what I really want for this blog to be.
Some of the changes are technical: new hosting and a new theme. I was very unhappy with my previous hosting. Let’s just say that it was a case of you get what you pay for — cheap hosting is hard to navigate and when it doesn’t do what you want there’s no customer support to help you. Since I changed hosting I have some other choices for theme and I’m going to be trying a few. I’m hoping that I can make this look awesome!
A more important change is in the area of content. I am still focusing on food and photography (and I’m working on my food photography) but I’ve been taking a class that has changed my food focus. Without going into too many details, after a lecture from a Nutrition professor (who is also a certified sports nutritionist and a registered dietitian) and reading a lot of medical journal articles I’ve decided to make a major change in my eating pattern. Specifically, I am losing the refined carbohydrates and increasing the amount of fat and protein in my diet. As a scientist, I understand the metabolic pathways involved in how the body processes fats, protein and carbohydrates, and I’ve never quite understood how that translated into the government dietary recommendations. Well, it seems that the recommendations were based on a very small amount of data and the vast majority of the data actually supports carbohydrate restriction. I know that I’ll miss certain foods but, after eating low carb for a bit now I find that I’m feeling better. Maybe it’s working — only time will tell. I’m not going all out with cutting the carbs. Mainly I’m removing sugar and refined carbohydrates (white flour, etc.) and experimenting with some alternative baking ingredients.
I’m excited to share new content and my experiences with this dietary experiment with you!
And I got a new camera, so the pictures are getting better!
